Eight Legged Freeloaders

We have spiders.

They are everywhere.

Okay, so maybe everywhere is a bit extreme, but if you ask my arachnophobic partner, he'd tell you they were taking over.

To be honest, I've never seen anything like this.

For a while I passed by this spider on my trips down to the basement while doing laundry and didn't think much of it. However, we've since noticed that she is a mama spider and what I had thought were gnats in her web are actually little spiderlings.

Lots and LOTS of spiderlings.

I feel a little stuck.

Usually I'm not one for harming the creatures of this earth, but this is a little extreme. I'm starting to figure out Operation Get The Spiders Outside Without Killing Any Of Them, but the boy seems to think we should just suck them up with the vacuum (which I'm not sure would kill them, but merely trap them til they found their way out).

Either way, I'm not sure my heart could take it.

There's a good chance I will call my mother in on this one & see if she has any spider wrangling advice. Until then, I'll be the only one doing laundry.

Mr. Arachnophobia refuses to even think about the basement.

What would you do?

Honestly, I would get an exterminator to my house. Stat.

I'm a freak about spiders!

I can't deal with spiders. They got to go. Space invaders and you don't want them on your baby.

I have NO idea what I'd do! That sucks! I have moral issues about killing spiders too, lol. I know they are helpful insects and not just pests like some others. You might be able to set up some sort of trap? Like some kind of thing that would lure them in and then they'd be stuck til you let them go? What exactly this trap would entail I have no idea, so sorry lol

I'm also in the "no harm" camp. We've lived here for 11 years and never sprayed for bugs, and we're in Texas, so all around us are scorpions, black widows, and the dreaded brown recluse (infamous for its bites that can cause necrotized tissue). We never sprayed, that is, until we realized that we had brown recluses breeding *inside* the house.

My "no harm" policy went straight to "Kill them all!" when I found a web right outside my daughter's bedroom door and an injured one limping across my oldest son's floor. The exterminator said it had probably gotten injured while mating. 'Nuff said.

If i see a harmless spider or two, i make someone take it outside, just like my grandpa taught me. If i saw this (which I would have instantly died from terror, no joke, i have agoraphobia to the extreme & got an instant stomach ache at that picture) they would all be dead. Not by me, but by someone. Then the whole house would be sprayed and possibly burnt to the ground, lol :p

There was a brown recluse over our bed a few days ago. DED. Husband had to search around to make sure there were no eggs, because when he smashed it, eggs came out. Earlier that day i saw a gaping wound in the leg of someone's son on one of my net forums because one bit him & he was in the hospital. DED DED DED. I'm a pacifist until it crosses the line of danger/infestation.

Oh yikes! These poisonous spiders sound scary -- thankfully we don't really have any here. Mine are harmless little guys... maybe a little icky, but harmless :)

I don't mind a spider or two, but that is a lot! If I couldn't move them out via sliding a paper underneath them all (which looks difficult), I would vacuum and dispose of the bag asap.

Ha! Oh my gosh thank you for catching that - I probably read this 10 times and didn't notice that!
Oops :)
(Though I suppose it's still true, the boy is a wee bit agoraphobic as well!)

I am in the same boat I don't like to kill bugs. I make my husband take them outside. Occasionally I will kill carpenter ants I find in the house but I always feel terrible when I do
