Sharing The Love: A Tiny Magazine Giveaway

If you've been reading So Fawned for a while then you will know all to well my love of Real Simple magazine.

Recently, due to a little blip in their subscriptions department I have been sent multiples of both the March & May 2009 issues & I've decided to turn this blip into a happy occasion for you!

I would like to share the love and pass on these two magazines to one lucky reader -- all you have to do is comment with one homemaking tip (cleaning, cooking, organizing, etc.) by Monday May 4th & I'll pick a winner at random.

Just a tiny little giveaway to say thank you for reading!

Much love & best wishes.

Wool and cotton blankets soft and fluffy--add 2 cups white vinegar to a tub of rinse water.

Since vinegar also breaks down uric acid, add 1 cup vinegar to the rinse water for babies' clothes.

For red lipstick stains on a wool carpet, use good old fashioned Ivory soap (the bar.) This is tried and true, after our 5-year old decided to make "dots" with a Burt's Bees Lip wax. OMG!! What was he thinking?!

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

To cool down your little one's food, use frozen peas instead of ice cubes. The heat from the food will cook them and they will cool the food down evenly without adding water (additional nutrition as well).

Simmer a can (or two or four) of tomatoes to remove burnt-on food stains from pots and pans.

Ok, here's my organizing tip for a new mom such as yourself:

When packing away her precious clothes, consider what you will be doing with them in the future. Planning on another child? If so, my recommendation is to use specific labels when packing the clothes into water-tight plastic bins (truly, you don't want any damp to get in. I've had some sweet outfits ruined due to a few bugs nesting in improperly sealed containers...). And I mean SPECIFIC! Not just sizes, but also "this box contains red and blue outfit that Gretchen took her 6 month picture in that you never want to lose..." It has helped me tremendously.

Ok, lets see.....instead of worring about cleaning your shower curtian, just go to the dollar store and buy a new one. I know its not really "green", but it saves a ton of time from cleaning the old plastic curtian and its only a $1.

Ooh Love it! My best homemaking tip is to clean with your baby attached to you. It keeps them out of things when they start crawling, and keeps them happy!

Oh! I love Real Simple too!! This isn't a housekeeping tip, but I like to keep a three ring binder (i use plastic sleeves) of things i like. For example: recipes, nifty tips, articles that really resinated with me, pictures of decorating inspiration, quote pages from the beginning of the magazine. It's especially fun to go through the past years of decorating photos and see how my tastes have changed and stayed the same.

Once those pages have been saved I go through and find pictures I really like and save them for cd jackets. I love making mixes for my friends and loved ones. I make them for birthdays, valentines, or just rainy days... In fact each of these cds i made for my partner have covers a'la Real Simple magazine (either articles or advertisements): http://themarkfamily.wordpress.com/2009/09/03/chemistry-volumes-1-4/
