Day 15: Something I Never Leave The House Without

All day I've been thinking about the post & almost loathing that fact that I'm about to tell you about my BlackBerry that I never leave the house without, but I suppose it's not such a bad thing.

I think maybe part of having a babe, and especially a babe that's in daycare is the fact that I feel much safer if someone can reach me at all times. This isn't to say that I don't use (and possibly abuse) my caller display, but if I'm out & about I like to know that I am findable. During most days I actually don't answer my phone much... and I very rarely make phone calls at all (I just don't like talking on the phone) and I almost never answer "private names" or "blocked numbers". My theory stands that if it's important enough, someone will leave a message, which I may or may not listen to/return in a timely manner, because actually I'm not good at that either.

I'm really selling myself here aren't I?

I use my phone to check my email a LOT. Working online means that my boss/coworkers and I are in constant email contact, so it's helpful to have these things at my fingertips.

Cellphones also make excellent timepieces. And I hate wearing watches.

So yes, this little thing lives on my person on in my bag at all times, and sadly, I feel a little lost without it. I'm addicted to Foursquare, Twitter & Facebook too... so it fun to have these things in my pocket as well.

Now, if you know my history with cellphone (water damage, physical damage, the washer/dryer incident) you might wonder how I've managed to keep it alive so long. This was the boy's phone first (now he's an iPhone convert) and it's been mine for a while now. However, it's been dropped and thrown and smashed around and the only bit of wear it's showing is the crack it sustained after being thrown by Gretchen one fine morning. I think it was her way of turning off the alarm. Perfectly understandable.

Again, I feel a little pathetic being so tied to my phone, but there you have it.
