DIY Child Friendly Chopsticks (In A Pinch!)

Gretchen loves sushi. I've been taking her to Matsu, my favourite local sushi restaurant, since she was tiny and she's developed a love for the cuisine -- which makes this sushi-addicted mama very happy!

She has been honing her chopstick skills, but for little fingers, we have a little trick we like to use!

Child Friendly Chopsticks!
All you need to turn those clumsy chopsticks into maki-grabbers is:

A set of lovely chopsticks
The wrapper they came in (or a thin strip of paper)
An elastic (I usually use a hair elastic that's floating around in my purse)

First, wrap the elastic tight around the tops of both chopsticks. Then roll up the paper and wedge it just under, creating a bit of a spring effect. Hand them over and watch your tot go to town!

Ready to use!

So Myun (noodles in a fish broth) is one of Gretchen's favourites. Avacado maki is her favourite roll.

Beware the kiddo with chopstick power... she'll pick up ANYTHING. Including the lid to this pot of soy sauce which clattered to the table moments after this picture was taken.

She LOVES being able to use chopsticks without help, and my guess it a few years of practicing like this, and she'll get the hang of it!
