The Winter Blues Have Entered The House Of Fawn

Oh my goodness -- what a week!

It must be a combination of the crummy weather & the cabin fever, but this week was just out to get me. Tonight big finale was when the power supply on my desktop computer decided to seppuku, leaving me to work on my laptop which might as well be from the 18th century.

These past few days have been all about plans which have fallen through, a baby whose teeth are causing her grief & a mama who probably isn't getting enough sleep.

Sadly (as misery inevitably loves company) my misfourtune has rubbed off on the boy who managed to fall behind the television stand in a spectacular manner this evening, landing sideways in the toy box with a thud & a crunch. Thankfully he's alright, but I'm not sure I can say the same for a few of Gretchen's playthings. I've yet to assess the damage. Oh dear.

So friends, how do you stay positive when the winter blues are threatening to take over? I'd love to hear your "don't worry, be happy" strategies!

PS. To to my lovely readers in warmer climes, please send some sun our way!
PPS. Don't forget to enter the teensy wee pinafore giveaway.

Oh my dearest Ms Fawn....so sorry to hear about you guy's fall and baby G's teeth. Sometimes nothing can help other than time, sleep and a good coffee (in my opinion). Also getting out for a walk sometimes helps. In the end, a new day with a fresh start is always the best way to get over a bad day.

So true -- I only got outside yesterday after it was darkish, which doesn't help a whole lot.
This morning the coffee is brewing & we're watching Gilmore Girls to get the day started -- I think that will help!

I get drunk.

I also: make sure I am taking vitamin d, make sure I go outside during the daylight, dance around to bad music in my house, paint my nails, put on ridiculous outfits, eat cookies, and watch bad trash tv.

When I get the winter blues, I like to bake. Something creative! Or I enjoy getting out of the house -- sometimes, you just have to say "screw the weather" and try a new bakery or a new coffee shop. Or go to a museum or something like that.

saw this photo series and thought of you :) i hope it helps with the winter blues. i understand, i get there too and just have to muster the strength to get through. bundling up and going for a walk help us ... the fresh cold air is good for the heart. i know it is really cold there, but i think if you wear baby G she will be sure to stay warm.

I just try to remember that it really IS seasonal. My life ISN'T as difficult or dull as it may seem in the weeks of Jan - March. It's just the lack of sun and air and adventure. I try really, really hard to get out as much as possible. We're off to the free day at the aquarium tomorrow, for instance (despite the fact that it is Martin Luther King Jr Day in America and all of the school kids will be there, too...)

Mmm, yes! Chocolate is always a good idea.

Actually, yesterday I went to the little specialty chocolate shop downtown and got the boy some choco covered bacon (ha, I know!) and got some tasty little truffly things too!

Oh, dear.

Hang in there. When the winter gets mucky and chills even my best intentions I remember that this is a time when all things retreat and surrender.

So I try and surrender to whatever is, even if it means crying, even if it means being blue.

And when I've reached the heart of the discomfort and shaken its hand, I take baby steps towards lightness again.

And I pray to an unseen source for strength and courage.
