Day 09: A Close-Up Of My Day

My Wednesday actually ended up being rather bizarre. On Tuesday evening, I got the heads up from one of my doula clients, that her water broke, so I was anticipating a call later that night, or in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. After bringing Gretchen to her dad's place, I made my way home to putter about, expecting that I'd be called to the birth soon (little did I know, baby wouldn't arrive til Thursday afternoon). I cleared my day, rescheduled my prenatal classes and made sure my doula bag was still packed up and ready for me.

Eventually, I made my way downtown to grab coffee and to meet some friends, all the while assuming I may be called away like Batman, at the brrrring of my phone. For most of the afternoon and evening, you would have found me sipping coffee at my favourite cafe, or reading Birth Matters, fireside, at my favourite pub. It was actually a very mellow day, but there's always a weird vibe around when I'm on call and waiting. I never quite know when my clients will need me. Every single birth scenario is just so vastly different... it's part of why I adore my job so much.

Later that night, I finally convinced myself that it was time to sleep, and so I did. A fitful night at best, but c'est la vie. It certainly wasn't a typical sort of day, but it was interesting... and I devoured a good portion of my book, along with a healthy dose of caffeine. All in all, a rather serene day.
