{Small Style} The Fisherman's Pullover

I have been thinking about this edition of Small Style for a long time now... ever since Iris first told me she was thinking about knitting a sweater for Gretchen.

Isn't it gorgeous? She took the Fisherman's Pullover pattern and knit it to a tunic length so G can get more life out of it (first as almost a dress, then as a sweater). It's cozy and wonderful and Gretchen was so excited to put it on.

Bopping around, post-market, with her paper bag filled with pierogis.

I love how happy she is to receive handmade goodies like this one... her face filled with wonder and curiosity as she pulled the sweater out of the gift bag Iris handed her. Amazing. She's my star.

Sweater: Fisherman's Pullover c/o Bossy Femme // Leggings: Joe Fresh // Socks: Joe Fresh (We've been calling these her Easter socks... they were bought around the holiday AND she thinks they look like Easter eggs... so cute) // Shoes: TOMS via Save Ours Soles

If you've got a Ravelry account you can pop over here to see Iris' project & find the pattern.

Linking up with Mama Loves Papa.

PS. Iris just posted all about the sweater over on her blog. Check it out.. and then keep scrolling through her site because you'll be totally addicted in no time.

Dreaming Of A White Christmas (With A Side of Knitting & Antibiotics)

Want to hear something bizarre? We STILL don't have any snow. In fact, today it just rained a whole bunch... rain on the 14th of December. In Ontario. I'm just shaking my head at this one.

I've been hoping for fluffy flakes and blustery storms. I want to wake up and see a world covered in white. I want to build snowmen with Gretchen and create trails of footprints in fresh snow in the park. I want the river to freeze and to see the temperature dip below zero. I want to crave blankets and hot chocolate, egg nog lattes and gingerbread.

Tonight, with the entire house to myself, I'm snuggled up on the couch with tea, trail mix, my knitting and the last two Harry Potter movies. Everything is still and calm. I'm even feeling alright, despite the mondo dose of antibiotics I've been put on after last night's bizarro trip to the after hours clinic. However, I suppose once I'm on them for a few days THAT'S when the miserable feeling might kick in. Ick. Bring on the acidophilus! (Also, don't worry... the doc isn't 100% sure what's wrong with me, but I'm not panicking yet, haha.)

For now, would you like to see the hat I've been working on?

This is my second attempt at this pattern. My first turned out much messier than it should be, but I'm getting the hang of it. I first learned to knit when I was about seven years old, but I'm still stuck in the basics of it all. However, I promise that's all changing. I've even been attending a few little knitting get togethers at the local yarn shop. So many knitty ladies! And I love them!

I hope you're all having a nice, peaceful Wednesday night as well. Ciao til next time.

PS. Let's be Ravelry friends, okay? I'm desireefawn over there.

Day 28: A Skill I'd Like To Learn

Lately I've been swooning over photos of knit items for sweet little toddlers. I've dabbled in knitting and crocheting over the years, but I've never managed very well. Sewing tends to be where I've gravitated (something about the instant gratification I'm sure), but I'd love to carry a project with me and be able to knit or crotchet away wherever I may be.

Thankfully, I have a handful of local lovelies who are rather talented in this field... including one who owns a yarn shop. How have I not taken full advantage of these facts yet? Sheesh, Des. Get to it!

For now, I'm drooling over these beauties...

So much sweetness.

Do you make your own baby clothes? Do you have any beginner tips or patterns to share?

Knitting Pattern Love

My knitting skills are limited at best, but my gosh, I'd love to be able to make these beauties from Tiny Owl's Magic Attic!

Knitting Love

The day before our spending strike began, I bought a rather substantial knitting fundamentals book. Learning to knit (more than just a straight line) has been on my crafty to do list for quite some time & I will be grateful to have a nice quiet hobby to work on this winter after our daughter is born & I am at home most of the time.

The book is beautifully put together & completely charming. I want to learn to make blankets, socks, scarves, hats & mittens (and I have also figured out a few ways to get my hands on yarn without crossing my own picket line). I'll be sure to share any creations that I manage to produce.
