Barn Cat Babies

Remember those barn kitties I mentioned before? Aren't they gorgeous?

Lately they've been getting a little friendlier, but they still aren't super easy to catch. Gretchen has been taking great care to wait outside their little entrance under the porch, dangling a tinfoil ball at the end of a long string. So sweet.

Baby Ducks Are Just Really, Really Cute

A friend of mine has a wee flock of Indian Runner Ducks that hatched just a few weeks ago. I took Gretchen to visit the little ducklings shortly after they were born when they were tiny and fluffy and new.

A couple days ago, Rich and myself went back for a visit... and took the duckies for a trip down to the lake. They follow along in a little line.

Speedy little things!

Their visits down to the lake are too much fun. They chomp at mosquitoes as we walk down the path through the woods... then one finally gets to the water's edge, wades in a tiny bit... and ZOOM! Off they all go, swirling around just beyond the shore.

Til next time, little swimmers!

Recently (Camping & Back Home Again)

Our camping trip was an absolute success. Beautiful weather & cozy nights by the campfire. My mister and I are both a touch sunburned (my nose burns no matter how many SPFs I slather on), but even so, our weekend was fantastic -- a much needed, mellow vacation. And we can't wait to go again. We've already planned a trip for July... and are thinking about one for June as well. But this time, with Gretchen, of course! She can't wait to camp out in a tent. Last year she did a few backyard camp-outs with her gramma and she's excited to try it again!

After getting home from our weekend away, Rich and I felt especially productive -- we actually unpacked and did all of our laundry by mid-afternoon, picked up Gretchen & had dinner! Not too shabby for waking up in a tent that morning, 2 hours from home. I'm already anxious for our next trip. (I'm also trying to plan a little getaway for my mister and myself for his birthday that's coming up soon... I suspect he already knows I'm up to something, so I'm not too worried if he reads this. Hush, hush.)

PS. Those lilacs? Gretchen picked them for me at my mom's place this weekend, and brought them home. They are making our condo smell AMAZING. Yum!

Happy Birthday Winnadog!

In the midst of our manic moving weekend (which went fabulously!) I almost forgot about this little monster's 7th birthday!

Sir Winston Hendrix turned seven on Sunday the 24th! What a dapper little fella. His present? A new toy to chew into bits!

PS. A favourite Winston snapshot.

They'll Always Be Pals

Gretchen adores her pup. That first snapshot was taken just a few weeks after she was born, the second, about a month ago. And at her birthday party this weekend, she's going to be stunned when she sees the "Winston Cake" that a favourite local bakery is whipping up for her!

PS. Another super cute fact about that second photo? The stuffy G is holding belonged to my baby brother, who had it with him in his incubator when he was first born and had some respiratory issues. I brought it to the hospital over 15 years ago and at Christmastime, he gave it to Gretchen. The sweetest gift. My mom teared up a little. And now she never wants to sleep without it.

{Wordless Wednesday} Pink Pup

The not-so-wordless part: Sir Winston was right at home at the big pink chair in our downtown neighbour's shop! Charm Tree Toys is the newest shop on our downtown block, just a couple stores down from Tango. The lovely owner has fallen in love with my pup, so we've been visiting a bunch! This pic was snapped the other day on one of our excursions to visit.

Funny enough, this wasn't the first time Winston had been in this particular shop. Years ago, it used to be Hot Diggity Dog, a pet boutique I worked at in my earl(ier) twenties. I took that job when Winston just just about six weeks old and brand new to my life! Such a small world. He used to come to the dog shop with me all the time, and snooze in the window. For years, people downtown recognized my pup before they recognized me. Now he spends his days snoozing behind the counting and greeting folks as they come into Tango. I love having him downtown with me! For the first little while he was a bit hyper to be at the shop all day long, but he's settling into a rhythm and now I can't imagine leaving him behind.

Much love to my Mr. Winston. The handsomest Boston Terrier in town!

One Crazy Kitten

Shortly after my eighteenth birthday, I moved into my very first apartment. Shortly after that, Kitten came to live with me. I know, I know… what an original name, right? She had been named “Rolly” at birth, but that name just never really stuck for me, and after months of just referring to her as “come here my little kitten”, the moniker just stuck.
