The 2nd Annual #PeterTweeter Awards!

It's that time of year again!

Last year, some fine folks in my beloved city came up with the idea to do a local awards show based on Twitter... and so, the #PeterTweeter Awards were born! It was a roaring success & such a fun night. I was nominated for a couple categories and ended up winning:

Mommy Tweeter!

It's actually on my fridge at home, haha. Sometimes I think about framing it... it probably belongs next to my university degree, eh? 

This year, I'm up for #PeterBreeder aaaaaaaaand @ShopTango has been nominated for Best Retail! My mister, @Ricwi, and I are also vying for #BarfiestCouple, because how hilarious is that? We've got some stiff competition, but your votes could push us to the top!

The #PeterTweeter Awards

My hometown is in the middle of something pretty rad. Started by a group of local Twitter addicts, not unlike myself, Peterborough, Ontario is hosting the first annual #PeterTweeter Awards, a local Twitter awards shindig to highlight some pretty nifty tweeters in our community.

I'm pretty honoured to have been nominated in two categories:

• Mommy Tweeter: We know you, we know your kid(s) and you are one active, social and engaging momma!
• Peter Tweeter: You drive the trends, lead the conversations and are interactive and engaging in your community.

Now, I know some may roll their eyes when I talk about how much I love my city, but I really do. I was born here, I went to university here, my family is close & it really is a lovely spot for raising little ones. I get bummed out when people trash talk my city. It's small, but we've got heart, baby. And I'm really excited for this awards ceremony -- a night full of friends, style, smiles & maybe we'll crash Twitter with our enthusiasm. Yes!

Thank You For The Penguins

If you happened to catch a few of my tweets tonight, you know that bedtime was total sucko. Despite giving it our best, Gretchen really prefers her mama to put her to bed. (Boobs = happy baby.) However, with reality setting in, a burnt out mama, and the fact that I'll be gone for four days early this August, I really need G to fall asleep a little easier for poor daddio, who gets a facefull of scream with each attempt. This feels partially selfish to me, and partially DUH, as in, why haven't we been able to figure this out yet?

Sitting downstairs listening to my child scream put all sorts of crazy thoughts into my head... I'm inferior, I'm a failure, I've done something wrong. These things probably aren't true, but I also know I'm not the only one shaking those dirty thoughts around in her head.

Tonight, I thank those of you who tweeted happy thoughts my way, and assured me that I'm not a craptastic mama and that a glass of wine would do wonders on a night like this. (Though I may have to make do with a shot of rum.) Thank you for being supportive fellow parents who know how it feels to be in these shoes. I appreciate having you on my side more than I can express. Thank you for holding my hand, for your kind words and for sending me happy videos of baby penguins being tickled to help cheer me up.

I am happy to report that my spirited two year old is now fast asleep. And everyone's still alive.

My Very First Tweetup

This weekend I had the pleasure of attending my very first local tweetup! We Peterborough tweeters all met at The Silver Bean (a fantastic seasonal cafe down by the water) and chatted over coffee & treats while my daughter romped around and entertained us all.

It was so much fun!
